My New Home--------->De Montfort Uni

Recently just recieved my enrolment pack and my summer project in the mail. Oooh Im excited :). Ive got a list of things needed to be done for uni and this summer project is another thing added. Im unsure of yet which group of designers im goin to pick to focus my study on . I wanna pick soon though because I wanna start this project asap so ive got plenty of time to do it and do it to the best of my ablity .

Just An Update

ive bin at home wrking on my collection . Its going on need to go to the pleaters to get my bfabrics pleated and i also need to re -draft on of my patterns cuz it seem that i didnt pick it up on friday or either i have lost it . will add pics lata

Thoughts.......

Mmmh haven't really been on i awhile ........been quite stressed try to get my toile finish for the photoshoot. Mt first attemps were terrible the pleating wouldnt hold and it truly pissed me off to the point where I wanted to just throw it in the bin. But try to stay positive i re-worked with my pattern to find another way to use my pleating. My toile looks ok I'm happy I got it done I think in my final fabrics it would look alot better. Im using leatherette , blackout lining and refelective strips. If i buy my leatherette tomorrow I can make two of my skirts which i know i can do :) .

Flats

These are the flats i have done on adobe illusatrator of my collection. I think they have turned out quite good , my skills on using illustrator are improving as i progress with using the program :)

Fabrics II

Today ive spent alot of time going to fabric shop looking for white fabrics :

Theses are all the fabrics i have looked at questioned weather to use in my collection some were fabrics i used just purely to sample with , to see how i work with white.
I was unsure of what fabrics to use i really liked the blackout fabric , thats became my favourite.
Speaking with lorna she help me to decide which fabrics are best for my collection- cotton drill , blackout
Ive also with the link that emily posted been able to find a couple of manufacturers on the UK which stock scotchlite

Collection + Flats

Just finish re-drawing out my final collection , i have start to work out my flat for them there not offically finish i need to put more detail on them which i will finish tomorrow. Im sleepy it time for bed lool x

Mmmmh I've been try to create sum templates I dont particular like them but oh well its apart of the progression lool . Im gna bring one of my magazines in tomorrow so that I photocopy some of the images out of in order to re-start again with this template thing, cause i know im not about to cut up my magazine espically how im trying to collect each issue :)

Coventry Transport Museum

Today I visted coventry's transport museum with my nephew. I was amazed to see all the different types of vechicle from cars, buses , bicycles etc. I werent able to do alot of drawings buti was able to take pictures of the different types of transport. I will upload the pictures lata .

Mmmmh is questioning what to name my collection. Any ideas ?

Fabrics

Following the talks from our crit on thursdays im going to see how it goes with doing an all white collection.

To day I went to get some fabrics :

• Leatherette
• Chiffon
• Panama
• Knitted Nylon & Cotton Satin Stretch

I wanna have a mix of light weight and medium weight fabrics. I also been looking online for perspex and reflectivce fabrics.

I have sent emails to a few compaines and are awaiting reply . There was one place I found were I could buy a roll of reflective tape for 0.50 put the posting n packaging on that was an ridiculous price for something that so cheap. And i ent paying that price for one little thing. KMT.

Tomorrow in my lessons going to BANG out loads of samples - take some fabric to tamekas pleater to get pleated and maybe start my pattern cutting, i would of went to college and done my sampling today but I ent really feel to good :(

Escher

Escher is a dutch graphic artist. He is known for his mathmatical inspired lithographs, woodcuts and mezzotins.They feature construction of architecture and tessellations.


Tessellation - is when something is repeated over and over again without any gaps or overlaps.


If I had luked at escher's work earlier on before I did my codatrace for my print i would of been inspired to use his methods of tessellation to create my print.Looking at the equations that are behind how a certain image is mapped out for a print. I find escher work inspiring an maybe if I have a chance if possible I could use my screen that I have and block out certain areas to recreate a tessellation print.

Pleating

Pleating is a type of folding- doubling fabric back on itself and securing it in place.It can be used in clothing and upholstery to gather fabric to a narrow circumference.

Today we were doing group crits in which i talked about my progression with my sketchbook and where i plan to take it , aswell as getting feedback on other things i should look at .Here is the list of notes emily wrote down whiloe talking . From this i know i werent exactly happy with the colour scheme i picked and was finding it hard to find a certain colour scheme which would connect with my journey , so there is a thought of doing an all white collection which i like but i just dnt trust myself with wwhite fabric loool . So tonight im fabrics sourcing white fabrics and reflective fabrics as well as going into more detail of pleationg - looking at different types of pleats. As i progress with my research tonight i will update my blog.

Okay so ive been desinging but im not exactly happy with what i've designed everyhting looks seperate , it does look like a full collection. Maybe i need to combined all these different elements in order to get this contemporary collection that i want. After cal's lesson im goin to spend 1hr re-working my desings . So that i come up with my final 4 , which i then can begin to pattern cut.

This weekend I plan to do all of my designing so that when I am at college in monday i can pick my final for garments and begin patternm cutting them.No distractions need to stay on top of my work , the fashion show is what lesson den 5 weeks asay . :)

12 Inches Taller

Romanian "shoe architect" Mihai Albu latest creation , heels will help increase the wearer's height by 12 inches.They cost up to £1000 and are made up of leather , peacock feathers, jewels and mirrors.WOW im not sure i could walk in them let alone stand in them.

Sketchbook

I feel quite goood today , last nite i stayed up really late and re-did my sketchbook becuase i felt that it was all jumbled up a nothing was flowing right. I also felt that my pages were begin to become over croweded with things. So i re-did it i now i know where im going and what i need to. Im going to try and start designing but i will mainly be designing ove the weekend. Continue samples with fabrics and i need to go to the bus musuem as well as go back to the library to do some more research on artist who use repetitive print.

Right now im gone need to have a little nap then when i wake up refreshed i will get on with looking at artist who use print as well as taking snapshots from my video clips.

Also while i was on the bus coming home today i tried to note down things people were saying little pieces of there convosations as well as doing a voice recording on my bus . Just another form of document my route.

Little Comment

Mmmmh today I done some work but i know tomorrow in lesson I need to bang out alot of samples cause by the end of the week hopefully I should have started designing.I alot need to visit this bus exhibition in cov either on thursday.I need to need to all so go and get some more fabrics etc.

Colour Scheme

This weekend I haven't been out much , been doing my hair & stuff but today I decided that I was going to go town to look at some fabrics. However its a bank holidays so certain shops werent open or closed early. Aww mayn going to have to go and look tomorrow instead.

Oh Boi ..... Walking

KMT what was I thinking today lool, of all the days I decide to walk I pick today when it been drizzling and allsorts. I must be crazy but oh well it’s for my project and I need it so it’s what I got to do. While was on my way to college I stopped off at few hardware shop to look at materials I would like to use.
I visited two carpet shops to see what prices were like for lino. However because I’m just use to working in meters n stuff when he ask how much I would want in ft n stuff I got confused :-( But I’m going to work it out. The only problem I have it if I use lino how would sewing it together............
Also visited some shops which sell wood, chain link etc.

Things To Do

Research fabrics where to get perspex from and other materials of that sort.
Walk my route if my bus in order to take pictures.
Viist travel west midlands and speak to someone about the e=buses etc
Go darlstons to do somne rubbings
I passed this wood place so maybe i could get information on how to use wood in approprite way for maybe a garment

Bus Journey One

Just got on the bus at the moment passing a house on the corner I’ve noticed that they have changed there windows. My bus driver today is driving the bus quite fast when looking down the road the markings almost become like blur all fading into one. Coming by the Richmond Primary Care Centre there has now been two more pharmacies that have opened up I don’t know why considering there was already one there in the first place.
After a while there is a long stretch which passes a reasonable size which continues bout sides of the road looking in a distance you can see burnt trees from youth playing around.
Heartlands Hospital where a lot happens people die new people are born it can be a places of happiness as well as sadnesss.On the stretch of house you can see that quite a lot of them have been doing refurbishments /decoration because there are a lot of skips around on the road which are over flowing with rubbish .

This going to an extension of the care home which will include easy access to shops etc. I want to take more detailed shot of the scaffolding and look at the shapes they make.

The Old 96

Even though i have been looking at timetables a thought has come in to my head about looking at the 96 bus route which used to be on my route , but then was taken off . Not alot of people where using the bus . This bus travel the same route as my 97 but turns of at the blues head and travels down the front side of the blues ground on coventry road. on my route there is a bus depo so maybe i could go in an talk to some about why they took it of and if they still have the old times of the 96 route.

Pure Frustration

Using Google map I want to get directions from my house to city centre-college. Because of how when you use Google map you can actually see the street view I was taken screen grabs of my route in order to show changes- don’t know if Google map updates the picture of roads etc. Imagine I’m doing this which is a long process I’ve only got down the bottom of my road pass the police station coming up to the newly built Richmond car primary centre and I click back loosing the place of where I was only to know that I have to start over again- my bus route like an 25-40 mins as well on bus so imagine how long it going to take me on Google map . Rolling the arrows on Google map is so long as well it just take time to re-order the image.:(................... I'm truly annoyed cant do it any more going to have to complete this tomorrow.

Print

For my collection I wanted to create a print based up looking at blueprints of buildings and my own drawings of my route. This has slightly changed because now going to national express I was able to pick up maps of Birmingham as well as time tables of when my bus is due. I also took photos of the time schedule in my 97 bustop. With these I want to create an intense print which has repetition in it because my bus journey is what I do every day.

In textiles we discussed everyone’s project and what there next moves are in progressing in our FMP. Speaking with Tracey & Vicky , I talked about my ideas for print and what kind of fabrics I want to use. I want to use materials which are similar to materials used on building. Like scaffolding/pipes using some kind of wire to give shape to fabric, or using starch to stiffen fabric so that it not able to move, because when you look at elements of a building they don’t move there sturdy , strong and well supported. And also using reflective materials as well because when I pass building on my bus I can normal see the reflection of the bus.
Tracey mention how she was able to get a hold of bus seat covers which I could be able to use to do sampling with, the reversed side as well as those reflective jackets builders us when the on site - using the reflective grey panels in some way. I want to use photo shop to scan in my route from map & guide along with the timetables and start playing around with proportion as well as repetition , highlighting certain areas on my route.

Colour Scheme

While being in town I’ve noticed that there quite a muted pallet of colours , with an interjection of colour. The colours are a quite muted pallet with an injection of colour. The colours I am seeing are quite earthy browns, beige cooper, pale grey ,white. Coming up to the garrison island most of the building are bricked so the colours are Basically brown-reddish with black.


(This section of me finding my colour scheme s not finished im unable to read my note that i made while i was on the bus. So im tryong to understand what i wrote as soon as i figure that out i will add the rest of my notes.looool :) )

Day 1

Today has been quite a productive day checked and re-worked my statement of intent in the library. The later on in the day in small groups did a crit where I got peer feedback about my FMP where its going , what I need to do etc. Speaking to Hillary and Mazika the feedback they gave me . Is to look at the history of certain buildings and look how they have changed over the years- if new buildings have been built in the certain area of a previous building or knocked down. Look at how the shape of the building has changed in any particular way. While Emily comment that I do a continues draw of all the buildings on my bus journey.
Speaking to Emily and other people I was indecisive of what colour to use for my collection . So with that Emily suggest that when I’m going home I write down all the colours I see from the buildings.

London Olympic 2012

The ArcelorMittal Orbit and it was yesterday unveiled as the £19.1m artistic centrepiece of the 2012 Olympic Park. Designed by artist Anish Kapoor and structural engineer Cecil Balmond, the 115 metre-tall red steel tower will dominate the east London landscape and become, it is hoped, a permanent visitor attraction for generations to come.

Its Been Awhile........

Since Ive last Been on my Blog :( and actually posted anything, But now im back and going to start reguarly updating it. Recently started brainstorming ideas for FMP and i feel for this collection i want to look at ARCHITECTURE/ART DECO. I want this collection to focus more on complex pattern cutting taking ideas from looking at the shape , structure of of old building aswell as new modern buildings.

So whats the PLAN over the easter holiday I intend to visit exhibitions -but im not sure where yet :). Go to the library and start researching the history of art deco & architecture . Begin skecthbook there no time for slackin on my FMP. P.S write up my statement of intend aswell.
